Abstract:
According to marketing specialist David Beriev, “Storytelling has always been an integral part of our lives. But stories are more than just entertainment. Starting back in the ancient times, people have used stories to communicate, learn, and connect with each other. Stories allow people to share knowledge and emotions, identify truths, find themselves and their place in communities, and make sense of the world they live in. And thus people are conditioned to look for stories in order to make decisions — in order to find value.”
To be effective in business and personal life, you need to know how to communicate well. Storytelling is an integral part of that effectiveness. A good story has five essential elements. The more you develop the skill of capturing people’s attention, the more you can lead, resulting in desired outcomes. Dea Irby will cover those elements by example and through a story creating exercise.

About the Speaker
Creating stories has been a lifelong activity for Dea Irby from the times she explained “what happened” as a child to the scripts she has penned as an adult and the spontaneous bedtime stories she told her eight children. Dea has been married to her husband, Tom, for 44 adventurous years, is a published author, speaker, and REALTOR serving the Triangle area. She joined Toastmasters in 2016 and has completed her Competent Leader, Competent Ccommunicator, and Advanced Ccommunicator Bronze Education Awards.
