Free for all NCPMI members and $5 for non-members

Abstract:

How will I make the jump to the next level? It’s easy to lose our sense of value in the midst of growing corporate and business complexity. Every day we deal with overwhelming technology, rising expectations, and so much competition for management roles. What is it about some people that enable them to advance, be recognized, and accomplish their career development goals? Do I have what it takes to be a true leader? Why would someone pick me first? Is attaining my true destiny at work just a pipe dream?

This is an opportunity to step back, take a breath, renew your perspective, and receive a deeper level of advice, through story and experience, about moving forward and breaking through in your career. The goal of this talk will be to inspire you toward the most important work, the career that is waiting for you.

Learning Objectives:

  • How to overcome being stuck in my career.

  • What is the ONE THING I can do, every day, to be successful?

  • How to reconcile my work with my authentic self to create competitive advantage.

Speaker:  Dave Katz, Director Technical Services, Cisco Systems

DaveKatzDave Katz is Director of Cisco’s Technical Assistance Center (TAC) global labs. Dave’s team recreates customer networking & data center environments, enabling 4,000 engineers to troubleshoot and solve over 60,000 customer problems annually.   Dave is also a certified career coach.  Dave has 35 years’ experience in the IT and networking industry, including roles as a technical trainer, customer engineer, software and automation developer, systems programmer, & network engineer.

On the more personal side, Dave is also a lifelong class clown, a performer who always loved software and reading instructions.  He writes humorous songs, usually containing technical terms to entertain and get people excited about something.  He glorifies his team’s work by helping them understand the incredible undertaking, deep value, and underdog position of his team who must beat the odds through wild ideas, brilliant execution and team work.
Dave loves to coach individuals and groups, encouraging them to go after their One Big Thing every day, and not live their life tied down in a tiny place, hand-cuffed out of fear while their world gets smaller and smaller.    He thinks those are the only two alternatives.
