Abstract

Today’s workplace is marked by rapid change and dynamic team formation with members drawn from diverse backgrounds and often coming to the table with different objectives and agendas, and different personalities, making the successful management and leadership of teams even more complex than before.

Having high performing teams is a necessity for most organizations.  Project managers who are effective and strong team leaders are highly valued for the role that they can play in boosting an organization’s productivity and competitive posture by developing and sustaining high performing teams. The overall success of most project teams depends on their levels of collaboration, competence and commitment, which in turn is impacted by their level of motivation. Failure to motivate and lead can result in reduced productivity, increased attrition and declining levels of trust.

In this presentation, we will explore the dynamics of teaming and why it is especially important in today’s rapidly changing work environment that is marked by technology and socio-political changes. We will then look at the various team roles, and the role of the team leader in goal setting, enhancing collaboration and driving high performance teams. We will then outline some practical tips and next steps for personal improvement as team leaders and team members to make our teams much more productive and personally rewarding. This will result in greater personal satisfaction and in driving competitive advantage for our organizations.
