Abstract:
Smart and connected communities are leading the way to ensure our region is sustainable to live, work and enjoy through the use of problem solving technology. As one of the fastest growing areas in the country, North Carolina’s Triangle Region is home to more than 2 million people, the Research Triangle Park, three major universities and the cities of Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill. This region is a global leader in the deployment of Smart City technology, and project managers play a key role to coordinate the many projects associated with the Smart and Connected Communities program.
During today’s presentation we will hear from a speaker, Terry Yates, about Cary’s Smart and Connected Ecosystem and working with regional partners on Smart Cities initiatives. He will touch on some of the challenges he faced and lessons learned while highlighting a few objectives.

Terry Yates, CGCIO, Smart Cities & IT Project Manager, Town of Cary
Terry Yates serves as the Smart Cities Strategist for Cary, North Carolina. He has more than 27 years of experience in voice, data and security systems within North Carolina Local Government. This includes extensive work implementing various business, traffic, SCADA, public safety and fiber optic networks. He has been responsible for Cary’s mobility program with telecommunications and wireless carrier providers, and is involved with the North Carolina Triangle Region’s Google and AT&T Gigabit Broadband projects. Terry has led various multi-million dollar projects and in now focused on Smart and Connected Community initiatives for Cary. He has served on various appointed boards, task forces and committees and is a Certified NC Government Chief Information Officer.
