Abstract:

A new project management (PM) model has been developed at Arizona State University. It is being introduced to the PM community at the SKEMA Business School PM Graduate Program at Lille, France. The model replaces the traditional PM role of managing, directing and controlling to identifying and utilizing expertise in projects. It goes far beyond Agile PM in flexibility, risk minimization, and overall performance. The results have been shown in Pilot testing with a 90% decrease in effort by client organizations, 98% customer satisfaction and has led to 1% vendor cost and time deviation rate. The model utilizes performance information that is simple and observable. It applies to construction, IT projects, and any long-term service. In this session, Dr. Dean will demonstrate how traditional management approaches create more risk by relying on trust and relationships. The presentation will present case studies with results of a $70M construction project, $2.5M IT project, and a recycling service.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the most recent research in project management.
  • Learn the impact of the new PM model.
  • Learn how to deliver projects with 50% effort with high performance.
  • Learn how to minimize vendor change orders to less than 1%.
  • Learn how to increase the utilization of expertise.

  • Create a concise agenda
