Message from VP of Finance and Administration - April 2017

Greetings NCPMI Members,

This is Yogi Muthuswamy, VP of Finance and Administration, writing on behalf of the President, Myriam Augustin, and our entire board of directors.

As VP of Finance and Administration, I have a responsibility to ensure that your Chapter, with over 3000 members, operates in a sustainable manner to serve you by helping you attain your goals and reap the benefits of belonging to one of the largest PMI chapters in the country and the world.

The Finance team makes sure that all Chapter operations run efficiently and smoothly. The Finance team facilitates the Chapter’s budget process, manages the budget on an ongoing basis, closely tracks expenditures and revenues and manages any deviations from the budget. We constantly strive to make these processes efficient by streamlining the processes and technology on an ongoing basis. In addition, we also manage the overall finances of the Chapter and any contingency reserves and any investments, per established policy guidelines.

To deliver member benefits, NCPMI procures goods and services and negotiates contract arrangements with several vendors and third parties. A major responsibility of our team is to anticipate and manage the operational and business risks to NCPMI by reviewing contracts and procurement arrangements. This also includes identifying and maintaining insurance policies in addition to those provided by PMI Global.

The other major responsibility that falls under Finance and Administration is the “Policy” area. Our team develops the policies that help govern the Chapter. We also help interpret and maintain and implement these policies. A not for profit organization such as ours needs to abide by several regulations and guidelines including State, Federal, PMI, Chapter bylaws as well as the policies. Developing and fine tuning these policies to meet the needs of our membership is an ongoing and a very important endeavor for our Chapter in the short and long term.

If you have a special talent or inclination to contribute to your Chapter in any of the areas mentioned above, we would love to have you reach out to the Director of Volunteers and our team to find out more. Our team always welcomes volunteers with an interest in Finance, Contracts, Administration and Policy to contribute to our Chapter. I am glad to answer any questions you may have.

As always, your board is here for you.  I am looking forward to what the next quarter brings, and I hope that you are too!
