Communications and Public Speaking CoP: The Decision to Win

Communications and Public Speaking CoP: The Decision to Win

Speech Title:  The Deicision to Win

Abstract:

In 1996, I competed and finished as one of the Finalists at the International Speech Contest. We compete in business, school and life everyday... often with the thought of being #1 in our industry, class or surroundings.… What does it take to win? Is it focus... skill… spirituality... luck… or is it something we decide to do everyday -- make life choices based on who we are? Allow me to share the real lessons learned from going to and competing in the Finals in the International Speech Contest. Lessons that will help you move forward in your life and career as the winner you are.

Learning Objectives:

  • Leaders will better understand their personal impact on their team success. I call it a Personal WIN (What I Need)
  • People will come away with a sense of responsibility and self-worth that facilitates cooperation at a new level
  • An immediate positive change in atmosphere in your group

Speaker Bio:

Sporty King, EC4, EH4, also calls himself The Master of Listening, and works with Military Service & Family Members who want to become better Listeners so they can become better Citizens, Employees, Parents and Siblings. He does so by sharing his Humor, Corporate and Life experiences that additionally inspire you to ENJOY your personal & professional success.

Since 2011 Sporty has been working with the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, facilitating weekend seminars with Service and Family Members going through the deployment cycle. He is a native New Yorker where he started his 18-year career with The Wall Street Journal as a Messenger in 1975 and after 7 promotions, 8 job titles and 2 relocations he retired as a Classified Advertising Sales Manager to eventually start his new ‘Messenger’ career... as an Inspirational Speaker in 1994. In 1996 he finished as one of the Top 9 Speakers in the World at the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking.

Still, he contends that his most precious title is Uncle, as he is a proud Uncle of 30+ nephews & nieces (don’t be impressed, he didn’t put in the work).

He’s been living in Charlotte, NC since 2010. He’s been talking about the power of choices we make in living much longer than that.
