Agile COP: Agile Transformation is an Organizational Change: 11 Epics to Success

Transforming an organization from waterfall (or no formal project management) to Agile evidence analysis

Despite all the books and blogs about large-scale transformations to Agile, there is almost no objective evidence. Only one scientific review had been published by Spring 2018, and it mostly found potentially biased articles by the people who led the changes. However, there are thousands of studies from the related field of organizational change (OC). Given that 2/3 of OC efforts fail, Agile change leaders can reduce their problems by using success factors from OC research. Well-proven models exist for overcoming barriers such as isomorphism, inertia, and resistance to change, but they are waterfall in form. This talk explains an evidence-based OC strategy using Agile to implement Agile. It describes 11 epics from a research paper and related user stories detailed on the open-source Full Stack Scrum(tm) site. The evidence suggests your only choice is between a disciplined, long-term, mindful effort... and failure. Learn how to succeed!

Jim Morgan, M.A., CCMP®, PMI-ACP®, PMP®, created FuSS™ as a Lean, open-source alternative to more complex and expensive Agile-at-scale methods. Jim specializes in converting non-Agile or struggling Agile organizations to effective Agile practices, at the single-team, project, program, and/or enterprise levels. He began training self-directed work teams in 1994 at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Since then he has taught team leadership or assisted teams at such varied organizations as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and the City of Seattle, and has guest-lectured at five universities. From 2000 to 2014, Jim operated TeamTrainers™ Consulting to train teams and managers how to apply group psychology principles to teamwork. A do-it-yourself version of his method, called The SuddenTeams™ Program, was published in 2009. He has created or improved Agile teams since 2008 for companies such as Red Hat, NetApp, and Honeywell.
