Abstract:
Most organizations and committees are confronted with the challenge of holding effective meetings. At the same time, most people feel insecure with parliamentary procedure most often codified in Robert’s Rules of Order Revised. In this discussion, David Lindquist will show how to think about parliamentary procedure and explain the most-often used elements of Robert’s Rules.
Learning Objectives: Attendees will get a better understanding of the following:
- Why we use Robert’s Rules of Order
- Prerequisites for effective parliamentary procedure
- Basic mechanics of motions and amendments
- Selected subsidiary, privileged and incidental motions.
About the Speaker: David R. Lindquist, DTM
David is a veteran specialist in market research and audience targeting with a B.A. from University of Connecticut and service at the Gallup Organization, Durham Herald Sun, and AICPA among others. He started his own consulting practice in 2014. David joined Toastmasters in 2012, earned two DTMs in 2016 and 2017, and is the 2014 District 37 International Speech champion representing North Carolina in the International semifinals held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is currently a member of Cary Toastmasters, Top Triangle Toastmasters and Bull City Toastmasters. David is also a passionate wildflower gardener, birder, and member of North Carolina Master Chorale.
