PMO CoP: Successful Project and Portfolio Management through Tooling Capabilities

Abstract

 The ability to gain insights that enable strategic decision making are strengths of a tool enabled portfolio. Whether your portfolio budget is $500K or $500M, you need fundamental capabilities that help manage day-to-day PMO operations and long-term planning and development. Insights into risks, dependencies, capacity planning, demand forecasting and other project management capabilities are supported through tooling and data practices. This in turn helps drives the decision on which methodology is best suited to executing the project. The presentation will focus on how tooling has enabled the ability to manage large, complex portfolios of work; supporting individual contributors to senior leadership.

About the Speakers

Greg Johnson is an Enterprise Portfolio Manager at Blue Cross NC. He has 20 years’ experience in IT and Portfolio Management, focused on private and public healthcare. Greg has served on the board of the Triangle Information Systems Quality Association (TISQA) for 7 years, organizing multiple conferences in the RDU area. In his spare time he spends time with his wife and 2 kids, and running marathons

Atul Peres-da-Silva is a certified Senior Project Management Professional (PMP, PMI-ACP, PgMP) with over 25 years of experience in leading technical and IT-oriented project teams. Atul has extensive training and facilitation experience to complement his hands-on project leadership endeavors.  In addition to being a learning facilitator for many commercial and educational institution clients, Atul is a Senior Instructor for the North Carolina Project Management Institute’s PMP^® Certification course.
