Public Sector CoP: Project Management for Smart Cities Initiatives
Abstract:
North Carolina’s Triangle Region is home to more than 2 million people, the Research Triangle Park, three major universities and the cities of Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States and a global leader in the deployment of Smart City technology. This meeting will explore how project managers play a key role in moving “Smart Cities” from a buzz word to a transformative implementation that solves modern problems and provides economic growth. It will also focus on how project managers coordinate the many projects associated with the Smart Cities program.

Speaker: Terry Yates
Terry Yates has more than 26 years of experience in voice, data and security systems within North Carolina Local Government. He leads a team of Project Managers at the Town of Cary, who are responsible for developing and executing strategic enterprise projects. Terry has also led various multi-million dollar projects and is now focused on Smart Cities initiatives for Cary. His efforts in creating Cary’s Simulated Smart City Program is globally recognized. Terry has served on various appointed boards, task forces and committees and is a Certified NC Government Chief Information Officer.
