Abstract
The quality of your leadership is contingent upon how emotionally intelligent you are perceived by others, not just how emotionally intelligent you believe you are. Learn how your own trust issues can influence the degree to which you exude trustworthiness, both of which are key to creating high-performing teams AND quality relationships in all arenas of your life.
The top two relationship challenges at work include 1) those who represent authority figures (as in leading up) and 2) those who represent colleagues and/or direct reports. Emotionally intelligent leaders garner the respect of both populations.
Furthermore, emotionally intelligent leaders manage well the two most common behavioral challenges within the realm of leadership: 1) fear of conflict and confrontation (dysfunctional pleasing), and on the other end of the continuum, 2) those behaviors that ensure others acquiesce and don’t confront – e.g., behaviors described as dominating, controlling, even bullying at times.
Surprisingly perhaps, problematic communication patterns tend to originate from good intentions, which can complicate the desire or recognition for the need to change. Equally surprising, the labels received as early as one’s birth influences how one engage others.
This course is designed to heighten both your emotional and social intelligence through leadership models, concepts, measures, anecdotes, statistics, and research findings. Attendees can expect to immerse themselves at a level of self-awareness beyond the superficial, thereby identifying root cause of any self-defeating behavioral patterns and motivations. Discover how your attachment style over the years has impacted both your ability to trust and others’ perceptions of your trustworthiness.
Learn also the specifics of an emotionally intelligent (EI) way to improve team performance via an online emotional intelligence measure offered by a Harvard Business Review author, covering 5 EI competencies that ultimately define level of successful engagement of others. Having others give feedback on the same dimensions offers you the opportunity to discover any discrepancies with the way you perceive yourself.
Additionally you will learn how you can manage your own permanent, positive change process through several leadership development change models, designed to help you perpetuate your learnings from today’s course. Improve all relationships of significance in your life via your ability to create trust and buy-in. Experience confidence communicating uncomfortable messages and thus gain the trust and trustworthiness from others. That’s the basis of high-performing teams and leadership at its best.
