Negotiation and Facilitation in the Real World
Professionals lose 31 hours per month in unproductive meetings or approximately four days per month. This figure makes it pretty clear; we need to improve meetings. Meetings are critical to getting things done so we just can’t stop meeting. Since they are fundamental you must learn the essential components for achieving meeting objectives.
Almost all meetings and anything critical to change in a business involves negotiation. This happens because whenever a group of people converge there will always be disagreements on how to approach the situation. The problem with negotiation is once that word comes up everyone things competition and win at all costs. Which is completely wrong on every level of business. The goal of negotiation is to move forward with the most optimal solution that time allows. The critical piece is “that time allows”. We don’t have the time to push for all our agenda. Do that and the reason to negotiate might be all together gone.
Ultimately if you want to move anything forward effective negotiation skills are necessary. And to get things moving forward you have to facilitate discussion and work. The two go together and this session will show you why and how.
You will also learn:
- Differences between a team and workgroup
- What facilitation encompasses and its three principles
- The steps to facilitate a successful meeting
- How time, power, and information influence the outcome of a negotiation
- How to plan for a negotiation
- The common pitfalls of negotiation
