Chapter April 2017: Six Sigma Skills for Project Managers

Abstract:

The Empire State Building in New York City with its 102 stories, 73 elevators, 2,500,000 feet of electrical cable and 6,500 windows was built in 410 days. The framework rose at a rate of 4 ½ stories per week. That is nearly a floor a day! And, most impressive was that it came in under budget and ahead of schedule. How did the project managers do it? Obviously, they had to have been the best project managers of the day. They not only applied the tenets of sound project management, but they also used something beyond that. They used concepts found today in Lean and Six Sigma. This presentation is about how these concepts, tools and techniques of Lean and Six Sigma can help project managers to become even more effective.

Dan’s background includes over 30 years consulted process improvement methodologies worldwide to the likes of 3M, Alcoa, AMP, Boeing, BP, Coopers Health System, Honeywell, Philips, Litton, Metropolitan Jewish Health System, National/Panasonic, PCC, Ryder, Siemens, Sleep Innovations. He is also a talented instructor in teaching the tools and techniques of Lean Six Sigma. He has been the keynote speaker on various Six Sigma topics at numerous symposia and quality conferences
