Project Managers Thinking Like Entrepreneurs

Gone are the days of Project Managers only needing to keep a project within time, scope and budget. Clients, stakeholders and project team members need more. Good project managers have taken their responsibility to another level, which embraces the mindset of an entrepreneur.

Project Managers typically work on projects that have a scope of work. In most cases, that scope of work is agreed upon by multiple individuals. Basically, this will be seen as a contract. Therefore, the project manager has a contract, a team to lead, budgets to oversee amongst other responsibilities. This means you essentially have a business.

The other Project Manager responsibilities include resolving conflict, decision making, the escalation point, main point of contact and providing guidance. Responsibilities are amplified, so should your mindset. Treat stakeholders like it’s for your business. Watch those financials like it’s for your business. Define a project culture like it’s your business. Show passion for the project… like it’s your business. All signs point to us needing that entrepreneurial mindset!
