President's message - May 2022
Hello all and welcome to the season of change.
As the foothold of spring has solidified its place for the year, we have each gotten the opportunity to witness and be a part of a number of changes and transitions over the last few weeks - in our natural surroundings as the leaves emerge from trees, buds turn to flowers, and birds start to nest, in many of our work lives as more and more companies embrace the start of a return to office, and, of course, at NCPMI as we kick-off the start of our transition to in-person/hybrid events. On May 5th, NCPMI will host a networking event officially welcoming the chapter back to in-person events. It’ll be a time to reconnect and have some fun with your fellow chapter members, some of whom you may not have seen or heard from in a while. In addition to networking and catching up, there will be games and raffle drawings, so it’ll be an event that you won’t want to miss! To register, click here!
If you’re like me, this time of year is also a time for planning, whether it’s what and how much to plant in the garden, a race or event to train for later in the year, or maybe a trip to see or do something new. As each of you thinks about your plans, I would encourage you to think about the possibility of volunteering and giving back to this great community that we’re all a part of within NCPMI. As the chapter begins the transition back to more and more in-person events, the need for volunteers to support chapter events will continue to increase. If you’ve been thinking about setting a goal to give back or putting a plan in motion to meet more people, now is a great time to jump on board and start the transition!
For many of us, the spring season has always been an exciting time, but this year in particular the season seems just a bit more special.
Best wishes,
Patty J. Dennis-Jones, PhD, PMP

Leadership CoP Personal Intelligence - The Next Stage in Non-Cognitive Competency Frameworks
ABSTRACT:
Geoff joins NCPMI to expand chapter awareness of Emotional Intelligence into new territory, which his lab calls “Personal Intelligence”. He will share helpful findings from his research with project practitioners from all over the world and introduce you to a new way of looking at the personal competencies you use every day. Attendees will come away with a deeper appreciation of the human elements of a PMO, as well as important tools with which to steer them. If you have ever struggled to convince stakeholders why they need you or fought to pull different business units together to work towards a common goal, you won’t want to miss this presentation.
Participants will learn the following:
1) How to define, describe and identify key Personal Intelligence dimensions.
2) How to apply Personal Intelligence to a project management framework.
3) How to leverage key Personal Intelligence dimensions to influence others.
Each participant will be able to claim a FREE Multidimensional Inventory of Personal Intelligence report!
BIO:
A. Geoffrey “Geoff” Crane is a psychologist and the founder of Adaptimist Insights, the worldwide exclusive provider of the Multidimensional Inventory for Personal Intelligence™ (MIPI). Geoff began his career in the late 1980s in the information technology field, quickly moving into the investment banking sector where he flourished for many years.
In 2009, a layoff at the peak of the global financial crisis forced Geoff to reconsider his career options. Fascinated by the human aspects of his work to that point, he returned to school to earn an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Applied Modelling and Quantitative Methods that focuses on emotional intelligence and statistical modelling.
At the time of this publication, Geoff is currently working on his PhD in Interdisiciplinary Social Research. The MIPI is his full-time focus.

Grow Your Skills
It is particularly important for Project Managers to maintain and improve their project management knowledge and skills to stay competitive in the market. PMP certification is a critical component. As, during the resent years, project management discipline took a step toward more flexible and dynamic project management methodologies, in addition to the traditional waterfall approach, several new emerging methodologies became in high demand. Thus, training and credentialing in these methodologies became highly sough after among Project Management professionals. It is especially relevant in today's economic climate.
