President's message - May 2023

 Patty

Hello NCPMI!

One of the main objectives from the board is to provide value to our membership. We strive to do that by creating opportunities for career and professional development along with networking opportunities with your fellow members. If you were in attendance at the last chapter meeting, you saw this first hand. There were headshots being taken by a wonderful photographer (Lindsay Aikman), paid for by the chapter as a service to our membership, and after time for networking with our peers we were treated to a fantastic presentation by a local speaker, Lt. Col Mike Erwin. Events that provide this kind of value to you are our goal, and we hope to continue doing this with the various programs and events we schedule going forward.
In addition to the chapter meeting, NCPMI has a number of programs that we hope provide value to you, our membership. Among those are the following:
  • Communities of Practice - check the calendar! (link)
  • Certification courses - PMP-ACP in September, PMP in October
  • Social good events - Food bank Sat May 20th
  • Career Development - Annual Conference Aug 29th at NC State
  • NextGen - contact vp_membership@ncpmi.org if you are interested in leading this passionate team!
  • Veterans - contact military_liaison@ncpmi.org for information
If you're interested in learning about our programs, I encourage you to attend a monthly Membership Orientation session. These are virtual and are a great place to network in a small group and ask questions about the chapter. The next one is May 8th. (registration link)
In addition, NCPMI participates in the Club 500 program with PMI. This program offers an initial membership to those in our community that are interested in determining if the chapter meets their professional needs. If you, or someone you know, is interested, I'm happy to chat to see if we're a fit!
NCPMI is here to support your professional needs. The board, the extended board, and all of our many volunteers are working tirelessly to provide more and more of these opportunities to you, both in-person and virtual. We hope that you'll join us at an upcoming event soon!
Regards,
Patty Dennis-Jones

Grow Your Skills

It is particularly important for Project Managers to maintain and improve their project management knowledge and skills to stay competitive in the market. PMP certification is a critical component. As, during the resent years, project management discipline took a step toward more flexible and dynamic project management methodologies, in addition to the traditional waterfall approach, several new emerging methodologies became in high demand. Thus, training and credentialing in these methodologies became highly sough after among Project Management professionals. It is especially relevant in today's economic climate.
