Abstract:

As organizations realize the benefits of concentrating on improving their value streams, Project Professionals can grow into Value Delivery Managers. A crucial emerging skillset that leverages existing skills and experience of project professionals to focus on improving the flow of value delivered to customers. This session illuminates the principles, strategies, and practices in Disciplined Agile’s value stream management guidance to improve the flow of value to customers.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will learn the following about getting value and address these pitfalls:

  • It takes too long to get anything done
  • We have so much work in progress; we are just firefighting
  • No one has any visibility into what teams are doing
  • Our teams are arranged in ways that create many dependencies

Presenter:

Joshua Barnes. He is the founder of Process Mentors Inc. and Head of Business Agility Practice. Process Mentors provides organizational transformation leadership to for-profit, non-profit, and government agencies all over the world. Joshua has. coached hundreds of teams and trained thousands of individuals.

Process Mentors is a PMI Authorized Training and Consulting Partner focusing on training, assessments, and coaching services. Joshua is recognized for his mastery of Disciplined Agile and is currently 1-of-10 Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant Instructors (was the first accredited DAVSC trainer in the world) and a Certified Disciplined Agile Coach (DAC). As a Certified Disciplined Agile Instructor, Joshua delivers the Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM), Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) and Disciplined Agile Coach (DAC) and Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant (DAVSC) workshops. Along with DA courses, he also delivers other Agile and Value Stream courses. 

With 20+ years of solution development experience, Joshua supports organizations to enable delivery of value sooner, limiting risk, and becoming flexible to changing conditions by focusing on sustainable change. He has established and led enterprise-wide transformation programs for organizations adopting agile frameworks. He has significant expertise in helping organizations adapt quickly to changing technology and cutting through the complexity to focus on building solutions that meet business needs.

Joshua has executive and mastery level certifications based on his experience and knowledge. In addition to his Disciplined Agile certifications, Joshua has multiple from other industry frameworks: SAFe Program Consultant (SPC4.5) Professional Scrum Master (PSM1 and PSM2), and Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO).

Coach and Mentor: As an agile coach, he provides training, whole team coaching and one-on-one mentoring at the team level as well as executive management, leadership and oversight roles.

Consulting: Performed team member, leadership, and oversight roles throughout his career in commercial and federal sectors. He started his career as a licensed CPA, focusing on audit and accounting systems and has significant experience in the banking and financial sectors.

Writing: Author of Implementing the IBM Rational Unified Process and Solutions: A Guide to Improving Your Software Development and Maturity (IBM Press, 2007). Joshua has written for publications including the IBM developerWorks and InformIT.

Workshops and Seminars: Has over 15 years of experience teaching and facilitating both formal courses and virtual workshops. He regularly facilitates courses for development teams, business roles, leadership and executives.

Speaking: Has spoken at multiple conferences on a wide variety of topics related to software development. 

Joshua would be pleased to do a 1- hour presentation with a Q&A session after the presentation for members of your chapter. Past presentation topics have included: Lifecycles of Disciplined Agile, MBI- Minimum Business Increment and Value Stream Management.
