Public Sector: Implementing Project Management at the Town of Cary
Implementing Project Management at the Town of Cary
Presented by Mark E. Fournier, PMP, IT Project Manager, Town of Cary
What do you do when a public sector organization does not have a project management approach in place to effectively manage its large number of business and technology projects? How do you begin to maximize value as quickly as possible and gain buy-in from staff?
- Assess what is right for the organization’s structure and culture
- Implement the appropriate level of project management required for understanding basic concepts
- Obtain management support to shepherd a new way of managing projects
- Develop a practical phased project management approach
- Develop and utilize deliverable templates and standard processes
- Communicate with staff to determine where refinements are needed
- Ensure continuous process improvement
The successful implementation of a project management methodology as it matures is achieved by continually monitoring projects and implementing required changes for the organization.
