Agile: (Reminder meeting is now April 12, 2017) - Agile Scrum vs. Kanban

Agile: (Reminder meeting is now April 12, 2017) - Agile Scrum vs. Kanban

Come join us for an interactive session where we explore Agile approaches using Scrum vs. Kanban.  Differences & Similarities.

Does the fact that we use Kanban boards mean we are now doing Kanban, rather than Scrum?!?

In the Agile community we often use terms (many of them, buzzwords) that we don't always fully understand. Which causes a lot of confusion, not just in educating other people what we do, but also in guiding our own practice. And, if that wasn't bad enough, we often reuse/overload the same terms with multiple meanings.

So is the case with Scrum and Kanban!

  • is Scrum a methodology or a technique?
  • what about the Daily Scrum? And, isn't that the same as Daily Standup?
  • is Kanban a methodology?
  • what about the Kanban Boards? Or the Kanban cards? And, aren't they the same as the Story/Task Boards?

and, by the way, is there really a difference between Scrum and Kanban? They look very similar. Don't we use Kanban boards in Scrum?

Wow, so confusing!

In this session we will try to untangle all this mess.

We will:

  • see the differences, and the commonalities, between Scrum and Kanban
  • clarify the difference between methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) and techniques (e.g. Daily Scrum, Kanban Boards)
  • learn when to apply either one or the other
  • explore if it's possible to combine Scrum and Kanban and determine, once for all, if there really is such a thing like ScrumBan
