Abstract:

We will take a deep dive into the process of evaluating a Toastmasters speech.  Evaluation is the skill we learn to help ourselves and others improve. The objective of a speech evaluation is to assist the speaker to improve, persuade them to make changes, and motivate them to give the next speech.  While the focus of this talk is a speech evaluation, the skills used are transferable to evaluating employees, projects, and meetings where you give feedback to others. We will review the parts of the evaluation speech (yes it is a speech too!) - a big energy open, capturing the speaker's skills succinctly, explaining improvements, and a concise conclusion. There is more- we will look at time management in the speech, how to apportion time to the different segments.  I invite you to join me in upping your game and expanding a skill you are already using

Objective:

We will break down the process in delivering an effective evaluation.

How to capture notes, and building the opening and conclusion.   The evaluator, while helping the speaker, is simultaneously teaching club members.

An effective evaluator is critical to club member’s growth and success as individuals contribute to their learning and effectiveness in listening.
