Cisco Campus - Building 12 (Vienna, Warsaw, Madrid)

Abstract

Our public presentation often aims to persuade our audience to take an action, such as buy a product, or perform an assignment. We want them to pay attention, remember what was said and act on our suggestion. This can be quite daunting, but we can use humor to "grease the skids."

This interactive presentation will expose and explore tools that we can use to add a humourous
dimension to our speeches. We will practice how to entertain and educate, while making our words
sufficiently memorable and inspiring that they will move our audience to acton.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
  • Understand why people laugh
  • Learn how to use humor to make a speech memorable and inspiring
  • Practice techniques such as Reverses, Play on Words and Triples
  • Learn when and where to inject humor into a speech

Chapter Meeting - November 2018: Aligning Work with Strategy

Sheraton Imperial RTP

Non-Members $25, Members $10, Volunteers $0.   No refunds will be provided for cancellations.

Abstract:

Aligning Work With Strategy sensitizes participants to the mindset necessary to think and act strategically as they lead and execute work in their organizations. Attendees focus on the mutually supportive skills of translating the larger organizational strategy to their own work and architecting their own strategies for executing this work. Additionally, participants learn the importance of having a strategic frame of reference that maintains alignment of strategy with the critical domains of work and people to enable effective execution.

This presentation gives an overview of the online course Aligning Work With Strategy provided at Duke Corporate Education that introduces multiple viewpoints on strategy and illustrates how today’s complex environment requires a more adaptable, responsive, and fluid concept of strategy. The course reinforces the need for a more tightly coupled feedback loop between strategy and execution. Course participants also learn various ways to maintain alignment between their own local level strategies and the larger overarching organizational strategy that they are ultimately responsible for implementing.

New member orientation will be held in the Windsor Boardroom from  5:30 to 6:30 PM

Satellite Meeting - November 2018: Communication Turbocharged: What I learned from spies and landscape artists

Cisco Campus | Building 3, First Floor, The Vault Conference Room

Abstract:

What do spies, landscape artists and project leaders have in common? Come to the PMI NC satellite meeting and find out. The Landscape artists and spies follow certain steps as if their life depends on them; the steps can be useful for us in project management. These steps incorporated early in your communication approach can turbocharge your performance and can help you exceed your peers. The more complex the project is, the more effective you can become. “Up” your communication game by slightly modifying your approach to your project communication tasks.
