PMO: The PMO’s role in Talent Risk Management

Matrix

The goal of a project is always to build something new. It is unique – in time, variables, risks, and resources because the exact combination of those elements only happens once.  Good project management includes risk management, but we often forget about the risks related to our “human” resources.  Those risks can have a high impact on the project’s success.  To successfully ensure your project delivers and reaches the assigned goals, it is proactive to create a talent risk management plan to assess and plan for the risk and retention challenges of your “human” project resources.

In this presentation, we will discuss how the PMO can promote best practices in talent risk management strategy, how to develop standardized processes for recruiting, vetting and managing “human” project resources, and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your resources vs. control and authority. We’ll consider how the PMO can support PMs’ management of indirect relationships, understanding different value propositions for different resources, and blending skills and expectations of resources to produce high quality results for your stakeholders.  You will benefit from lessons learned in over 120 projects, from years of experience as an HR practitioner and a project manager, and from a senior perspective as an executive.

Career Workshop: Finding a Career that You Love

MetLife - Building 2, Edison I

Do you want to find a career that you love?  Maybe you’ve been so busy worrying about your current job that you haven’t taken half an hour to consider what you’d rather be doing. And when you do start to think about it, your mind morphs into a cloudy mess of overwhelm.  Believe me: I’ve been there, too. And after I did find what I was looking for, I’ve spent time coaching friends and colleagues who are going through the same thing. While there aren’t any shortcuts when it comes to planning to go after your dream job, I’ve found that breaking the big question down into a few simpler ones can be a productive way to get started.

Prof Dev: Leadership and Social/Emotional Intelligence: Making Constructive Use of Our Differences

Matrix

Members: $225, Non-Members: $295

Leadership is all about relationships and communication; highly effective leadership is all about mastering relationships and communication. This entails acquiring mastery of both self and others – i.e., self-awareness and social-awareness. This course is designed to heighten both your emotional and social intelligence through leadership models, concepts, measures, anecdotes, statistics, and research findings.

This course includes a leadership communication measure that goes beyond highlighting strengths and potential pitfalls. Even if you have already taken the Myers Briggs measure, you will be exposed to a new application that allows you to observe and experience in real time what it means to make constructive use of your differences with others. As a practical takeaway, this process will enable you to apply the coursework on emotional and social intelligence with your own team members (and family!) following the course. No other leadership or communication measure lends itself to this fascinating process.

Finally, you will learn how permanent, positive change evolves through several leadership development change models and concepts such that you can perpetuate your learnings from today’s course. Improve all relationships of significance in your life via your ability to create buy-in, comfort in communicating uncomfortable messages, and harmony. That’s leadership.
