Abstract

Speech Contests provide excellent opportunities to accelerate the development of speaking skills. The competitive environment causes contestants to spend several hours writing, rewriting and rehearsing the delivery of their speech. This activity requires focus, energy and intense desire, and often produces the contestants' best work.

A speech contest is a project, which offers opportunities to practice and develop leadership and project management skills in a low risk environment.

This contest will involve an inspirational speech, which can also be educational or humorous. It is the start of a process for selecting contestants for the Toastmasters International Contest to be held in August 2019, in Denver, Colorado.

The Table Topics contest challenges speakers to demonstrate their impromtu speaking skills by responding to a topic being heard for the first time. These contests often provide a rich source of entertainment for the audience.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn methods for delivering impromtu speeches
  • Acquire tips from competitive speakers, which can be used to develop their own speaking skills

PMO CoP: Going Agile - Understanding Organizations & People

Cardinal Solutions Group

Abstract

“We are going Agile.” This seems to be one of most heard and used phrases over the past couple of years. However, the move to Agile seems to be more of a fad without fully understanding the benefits of doing so.  In addition, do we understand the full impact of moving to Agile project delivery?

Well, surely you plan how to align your teams, but have you stopped to consider the effect of “change” on your colleagues?  While change is not an issue for some people, it is a huge and emotional deal for others!  We must look at team and organizational impacts that change may bring because you must consider the impact of change on multiple individuals.

This session will look at the personal and organizational aspects of moving to an agile framework. The intention is not to be able to solve all the challenges that change may bring, but rather bring awareness to parts that we may have never considered.
