Today’s business landscape, regardless of industry focus, is often characterized as complex, multi-faceted, dynamic, and fast paced. The quest to achieve results is driven by the need for rapid change and innovation.  Yet, many organizational change initiatives produce mixed results.

Among the top reasons for the mixed results are the lack of capabilities and utilization of proper frameworks and methodologies to embrace and foster change. This workshop will provide insights on how to approach change initiatives using proven methodologies and frameworks in order to increase success rates. Specifically, the session will touch on:  Defining change management and secure a foundational understanding of the Prosci change management methodology; appreciate the critical levers required to manage change, foster adoption, and sustain success; understand the importance of developing a stakeholder analysis and communications strategy and plan to raise awareness and foster adoption; and have a high level understanding for managing resistance, reinforcing, and sustaining change.

Today’s economy rewards organizations, leaders, and individuals who know how to quickly access and communicate their best thinking. Yet many of us believe that we can’t dramatically advance our analytic capability or learn to think more powerfully in collaboration with others. If you are buying into this myth, you aren’t tapping anywhere close to your or your organization’s full potential. Cutting-edge knowledge work asks for innovation amidst growing complexity, performance pressure, and distraction. In this demanding context, savvy questions and clear, concise answers are our most effective tools for improving focus, engagement, and execution. This seminar will introduce you to the Precision Q+A™ framework. Tested over two decades in some of the world’s most respected businesses and universities, the Precision Q+A™ framework teaches you how to bring the best of your analytic and social-emotional intelligence to the business problems your organization is tackling.

This is a joint meeting of the NCPMI Higher Education CoP, and the Duke Project Management CoP.

Meeting:  2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Registration/Networking:  2:30 PM-3:00 PM

Presentation:  3:00 PM -4:30 PM

In this 90-minute session, participants will complete a simple team assignment with restrictions that highlight the challenges of communication, collaboration, and coordinating stakeholders. Participants will build a structure out of Legos that must conform to design specifications and use available materials. Teams have defined roles for different members; all participants must operate within the limits of their roles and in the available time. After completing the exercise, we will debrief the experience as a group, discussing topics such as observed behaviors, unexpected challenges, and how team members collectively organize and solve problems. The activity mimics many workplace challenges common to project management.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will:

  • Gain an understanding of the value of collaboration
  • Explore the benefits and challenges associated with collaboration
  • Develop a mindset of looking at the bigger picture: migrating from problem-solving in a silo to reaching out to other resources and understanding the larger system at play
  • Engage in problem-solving as a team
  • Observe their own behaviors in protecting or sharing information across teams
