Abstract

Speech Contests provide excellent opportunities to accelerate the development of speaking skills. The competitive environment causes contestants to spend several hours writing, rewriting and rehearsing the delivery of their speech. This activity requires focus, energy and intense desire, and often produces the contestants' best work.

A speech contest is a project, which offers opportunities to practice and develop leadership and project management skills in a low risk environment.

This contest will involve speech evaluations and humorous speeches, which often provide a rich source of entertainment for the audience.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Experience models of excellent speakers who can be emulated
  • Learn methods for injecting humor into their own speeches
  • Acquire tips from competitive evaluators, which can be used to develop their own speaking skills
  • Experience practical examples where Evaluators LEAD: Listen, Evaluate And Decide
